Osram improves white characteristics

Osram is now offering its warm white and neutral white high-power LEDs with improved quality of light. The lighting specialist is defining the colour coordinates for different sorting grades (binning) within very narrow tolerances.

The LEDs have a typical colour rendering index (CRI) of more than 80 and now have improved angle homogeneity even with volume casting. It is therefore easier and more cost-effective to achieve homogenous illumination even in demanding lighting situations.

In order to provide narrower tolerances, Osram has refined its production and selection procedures for its Power TopLED, Advanced Power TopLED and Dragon high-power LEDs. Precisely defined colour coordinates ensure that different LEDs within one white group reliably emit the same homogenous white light – with no visible colour deviations. LED of one particular bin can be used in lighting applications without the need for further checks. Even in critical applications such as diffused light sources or tightly packed light sources they meet stringent requirements in terms of homogeneity. The white tone of an LED is within a range that typically corresponds to a 3-step McAdams Ellipse.
