Components & System Design

14 March 2001 News

Components & System Design is a company established in 1996 that specialises in the distribution of electronic components and hardware and software development tools for the embedded microelectronics market. Driven by its expertise in this field, it offers a high level of technical support in conjunction with design services - and prides itself on its customer service and support.

Components & System Design currently distributes the following range of products:

* STMicroelectronics (ST), who acquired Waferscale Integration ( www.psdst.com), now offers the range of PSD devices (programmable system devices). These devices are support chips used with low-cost microcontrollers in embedded applications. The latest flash-based PSDs integrate sizeable dual flash arrays for concurrent operation, SRAM, EEPROM, plus a simple PLD, I/O, and MCU interface to make an integrated low cost solution for MCU users that need to go 'off-chip' for larger memories. The company also offers new free development software - PSDsoft Express. This software provides a simple point and click development and programming environment for embedded designs allowing users to quickly add in-system programming (ISP) and in-application re-programming (IAP) using a low cost configurable memory system on a chip.

* IAR Systems ( www.iar.com) pioneered the development of ANSI-compliant and optimised C cross-compilers for embedded microcontrollers. Today IAR is one of the largest embedded tools providers in the world and the only one supporting 8, 16 and 32 bit micros architecture in one single embedded workbench.

* iSystems ( www.isystems.com) specialises in development tools for 8, 16, 32 bit microcontrollers and this company created the Windows integrated development environment 'advanced-WinIDEA'. This development environment is said to contain all the necessary tools in one shell.

* DisplayTech ( www.displaytech.com.hk) Specialises in the design and supply of liquid crystal displays (LCD) and the design and manufacture of LCD modules and graphics LCD displays.

* ARBOR Technology ( www.arbor.com.tw) manufactures boardlevel, system-level and fully integrated industrial microcomputer products for OEMs and users who seek to automate their applications quickly and cost effectively. ARBOR manufactures more than 100 different ruggedised PC bus products. Their PC-based products include single board computers, data acquisition and control products, PC/104 Modules, chassis and enclosures and industrial work stations.

* Chipcon ( www.chipcon.com) develops and delivers standard integrated circuits for a world wide market. Chipcon has introduced the CC400 and CC900 single-chip digital RF transceiver devices based on SmartRF technology. A complete development kit with two programmable radio modules, antennas, PC cables, connectors and documentation is offered to get you started in this area.
