Industrial Micro AIX motherboard

16 April 2008 Computer/Embedded Technology

Advantech's AIMB-562 features the Intel 945G Express chipset and supports high-performance Intel Core 2 Duo/Pentium D/Pentium 4/Celeron D processors. It has a fast 1066/800/533 MHz Front Side Bus and headroom for up to 4 GB of DDR2 667/533/400 MHz system memory in dual-channel mode. With the high bandwidth required for a wide range of modern industrial applications and extended product lifecycle support that is so crucial for embedded platforms, the board offers two graphic solutions including the cost-effective Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 950 and the onboard PCI Express x16 slot.

The AIMB-562 is designed to enable space-efficient solutions to deliver good computing performance per watt. By incorporating the new Intel Core 2 Duo processor, it delivers an excellent performance-per-watt solution, in the form of dual-core processing with a 4 MB L2 cache. Dual-Core processors are ideal for powering multithreaded and multitasked applications. The 945G Express chipset ensures high-quality graphics and smooth visual performance.

Integrated with the chipset, the Intel GMA 950 features a compelling 400 MHz core and supports 224 MB of shared video memory, as well as DirectX 9 3D hardware acceleration. This integrated graphic solution effectively lowers the overall total cost of ownership by reducing power consumption and eliminating the need for expensive discrete graphic cards. For multidisplay or future graphic upgrades, a PCI Express x16 slot supports higher performance graphic cards that permit convenient connection to display devices such as CRTs, LCDs and various others.

The AIMB-562 offers a host of integrated I/O interfaces that speed up installation and deployment. Providing robust LAN connectivity, the PCI Express-based Intel 82573 Gigabit Ethernet controller provides up to 1000 Mbps of bandwidth for network-intensive applications. The AIMB-562 has four Serial ATA II 300 MBps connectors for abundant data storage. Graphics and I/O expansion are fully supported by the PCI Express x16, PCI Express x1 and two 32-bit PCI slots.

The AIMB-562 promotes convenient connection to external peripherals through eight USB 2.0, two RS232, one parallel port, VGA and two PS/2 ports.

Platform longevity and scalability for long-term industrial use are assured as the AIMB-562 has passed Advantech's rigid physical and operational tests and is designed with industrial-grade, RoHS-compliant materials, proven to withstand rugged computing environments.
