The CC1111 introduced by Texas Instruments is said to be the industry’s first sub-1 GHz radio frequency (RF) system-on-chip (SoC) with an integrated USB controller, enabling a fast and easy bridge between PCs and RF.
It combines the performance of TI's CC1101 RF transceiver with an enhanced 8051 microcontroller (MCU), 8/16/32 KB of in-system programmable Flash memory and a full-speed USB controller for improved low-power wireless sensor networking. Power consumption is only 0,3 μA in the case of an external wake up and 0,5 μA in the case of a timer or external interrupt.
This SoC solution is supported by SimpliciTI software, which is aimed at helping customers to develop their application quickly, and is available at no cost and without royalty. Both star and point-to-point configurations are available, with up to 256 nodes possible in a star configuration network. The software consumes minimal MCU resources and is supplied as full source code with example projects.
The CC1111 includes a 128-bit AES security coprocessor. Its data rate is programmable from 1,2 up to 500 Kbps using FSK and MSK modulation and up to 250 Kbps in GFSK mode. It targets a wide variety of low-power wireless applications including alarm and security systems, active RFID, automatic meter reading, industrial monitoring and control, home and building automation and remote controls.
Design and evaluation kits are also available.
