Atmel's new CryptoCompanion chip offers plug-and-play, host-side cryptographic security for embedded systems that are prone to firmware theft, the violation of licensing agreements and/or product counterfeiting. This plug-and-play convenience means that designers do not have to design or test the cryptographic algorithms. When used with Atmel's CryptoMemory and CryptoRF devices, the AT88SC016 provides a highly secure, hardware-based solution at very low cost. Some of the many applications for these devices include production authentication, track and trace, logistics management, secret key storage, IP protection, software protection, public transportation, E-Purse, secure access control, anti-cloning, identification and anti-counterfeiting. Atmel's AT88SC016 CryptoCompanion chip is available now in standard 8-pin SOIC packages. Development and demonstrations kits are also available.
