1 W power LEDs in various colours

9 July 2008 Opto-Electronics

The Little Star VLMK71, VLMR71, VLMY71, VLMW71 and VLMW711 series of high-brightness LEDs from Vishay offer low thermal resistance and high luminous intensity for a wide range of applications.

Featuring an SMD power package with a compact 6,0 by 6,0 mm footprint and ultra-low profile of 1,5 mm, these new LEDs are designed for high current drive and offer high flux output with an optical efficiency of 55 lm/W. They feature low thermal resistance of 18 K/W and 20 K/W, high luminous intensity from 7150 mcd to 28500 mcd, and high luminous flux from 21000 mlm to 97000 mlm.

The amber and yellow LEDs each have two luminous flux options, while the white LED is available in white VLMW711 and warm white VLMW71 versions, with three luminous flux options for each.

These LEDs are optimised for backlighting and illumination in automotive and transport, consumer and general applications. Typical end products include handheld mobile devices such as mobile phones and PDAs, traffic lights, advertising displays, household appliances such as ovens and microwaves, and exterior automotive lighting such as indicators and brake lights. Additionally, the white LEDs are suitable for general illumination purposes as an alternative to incandescent lamps.

All devices in the new family offer a 60° half-intensity angle and 120° viewing angle, and are compatible with IR-reflow solder processes. The LEDs are automotive qualified to AEC-Q101 and comply with RoHS 2002/95/EC and WEEE 2002/96/EC. Pre-conditioned according to JEDEC moisture sensitivity Level 2 standards, the Little Star package is lead-free and RoHS-compliant.
