Decentralised power bus system

Wieland Electric offers two systems for decentralised power installation in industrial applications – podis and gesis IP+. Decentralised installation means installing switching and control functions near the consumer device in the field and avoiding costly central cabling.
This follows the trend defined by fieldbus technology. Flexible individual machine and system concepts as well as time savings during installation are obvious benefits of this type of system.
These two systems are already used in logistics, warehousing and conveyor technology, where energy must be distributed throughout wide areas. The uncut flat cable power bus podis is suitable for long-distance systems that are simply structured. For modularly structured or extremely branched systems, the pluggable round cable power bus with the RST connectors from gesis IP+ is preferred. Both power bus solutions enable supply of motor starters or frequency converters that are installed remotely in the field, alternatively via AS-Interface or via Profibus-DP. The systems fulfill the IP 65/68 protection degree and are suitable for installations in rough industrial environments.
The systems include power field distribution units, maintenance switches, pre-assembled cable sets, connectors, tools and comprehensive accessories. Power coming from the central control cabinet is distributed into the field as defined by the configuration through an uncut podis flat cable or a pluggable gesis IP+ round cable. The power is tapped in any position near the consumer device by the podis connection modules using insulation-piercing termination or the pluggable RST distribution units. Branches as well as outputs to the motor starters and frequency converters can be implemented as either pluggable or fixed.
The podis MOT or gesis MOT field distribution units realise power distribution, motor connection as well as inputs and outputs inside a single housing. They are activated either through AS-Interface or Profibus-DP and convert these protocols into binary signals or for data transmission via RS485. Using the RS485 interface enables activation of remote, usually motor-integrated motor starters or frequency converters. For status detection and troubleshooting near the consumer device, on-site diagnostics with LED display have been integrated. Sensors can be connected using M12 connectors.
