Red Rhino Electronics may be a name unfamiliar to many South African manufacturers, but it has had a presence here for several years in one form or another, and is looking to expand. Based in the UK, the company supplies manufacturing equipment and has a strong philosophy of technical backup and support, whether its customers are in the UK or a plane trip away here in South Africa.
About five years ago, Gauteng-based Alien System Technologies (AST) had reached a point where production for its unique fire prevention systems was being limited. Managing director, Paul Wright, decided to invest in surface mount production equipment to automate the PCB assembly area. The machine he chose was the Versatronics RV4, then a couple of years later he continued to expand and installed a second machine.
At the time, AST chose to use a UK-based company called VSMT to supply all its production equipment. Now, five years later, VSMT is operating in South Africa in partnership with Shanelo Technologies as Red Rhino Electronics. Paul Wright says, "I am delighted that Red Rhino is here now. We have had nothing but reliable products and received excellent technical support when we have needed it. As production expands, we will be looking to Red Rhino for our next machine. We know that Red Rhino focuses on entry level equipment, but we have made thousands of PCBs on our line."
In addition to supplying VSMT's range of new and used equipment, Red Rhino also exclusively represents IBL's offering of vapour phase reflow systems in South Africa, which ranges from affordable desktop systems to full inline machines.
