Oscillator handles high temperatures

6 August 2008 Electronics Technology

Euroquartz has launched a new surface mount oscillator from Statek, which is designed for applications requiring operation in high temperature environments.

The new CXOMHT oscillators are high-temperature versions of the CXOM range and offer high stability and fast startup. The AT crystal-based 32,768 kHz oscillator is designed to operate at temperatures up to 200°C with a total frequency stability of 200 ppm, compared to approximately 1000 ppm for a tuning fork-based 32,768 kHz oscillator. The device can also be supplied in a high-shock version that features 10 000 G shock survivability.

Designed for surface mount applications using infrared, vapour phase or epoxy mount techniques, the new CXOMHT oscillators feature low EMI emissions and are supplied in a 1,4 mm thick, hermetically sealed ceramic package measuring 6,5 x 5 mm.

Additional features include CMOS/TTL compatible output, optional output enable/disable with tri-state and availability of full military testing.

Specifications include 3,3 V supply voltage, calibration tolerance of ±100 ppm, frequency stability of ±100 ppm from 25 to 150°C and ±150 ppm from 25 to

175°C (±200ppm from 25 to 200°C overall), supply current of 500 μA, output load (CMOS) of 15 pF and ageing (first year) of 10 ppm maximum.

Typical applications include downhole instrumentation, rotary shaft sensors and underground boring tools.
