4-line bus port protection array

29 October 2008 Circuit & System Protection

Vishay has released a compact new 4-line ESD-protection array designed to provide a low capacitance with a high surge current for the protection of dual high-speed USB ports, or up to four other high-frequency signal lines, against transient voltage signals.

The VBUS054CV-HS3 is packaged in the leadless LLP75, with a 1,6 mm by 1,6 mm footprint and an ultra-low profile of 0,75 mm to minimise the board space required for active ESD protection in a wide range of portable electronics, including portable and handheld computing, communications, industrial and medical systems.

The new device features a low load capacitance of 1,2 pF and a low maximum leakage current of less than 0,1 μA at the working voltage of 5 V. The array offers a typical breakthrough voltage of 7 V at 1 mA, and a maximum clamping voltage of 22 V at 13 A.

The array provides transient protection for four data lines as per IEC 61000-4-2 (ESD) at 30 kV (air and contact discharge) and IEC 61000-4-5 (lightning) from 11 A. It is also compliant with RoHS 2002/95/EC and WEEE 2002/96/EC.
