Texas Instruments has introduced four low-power ADCs that offer low power consumption while providing high performance for precision applications. The 12-bit ADS7229 and ADS7230 and the 14-bit ADS7279 and ADS7280 combine a 1 MSps successive approximation register (SAR) ADC with inherent sample and hold and a conversion clock. The 7229 and 7279 feature a single unipolar input for applications requiring a single data converter per channel. The 7230 and 7280 have a 2-to-1 input multiplexer that allows each ADC to digitise two channels. All four offer an SPI-compatible interface to minimise board space and simplify connection to the host device. The devices boast signal-to-noise ratios as high as 85,9 dB and total harmonic distortion down to -88,5 dB. They use 13,7 mW at 1 MSps with a 3 V supply and are specified over the industrial temperature range of -40°C to 85°C.
