RF Micro Devices has begun production shipments of power amplifiers for use in Tele Aid, a telematics system developed by Motorola and Mercedes-Benz.
Telematics systems use a wireless network to collect and disseminate data. Mobile telematics applications include vehicle tracking and positioning, on-line navigation and emergency assistance. The Tele Aid is a standard feature on all model year 2001 Mercedes-Benz vehicles and provides drivers with automatic emergency response, roadside assistance and product information.
"We are very pleased that our power amplifiers have been selected for use in this state-of-the-art telematics system," said Dave Norbury, RFMD's President and CEO.
RF Micro Devices is providing two power amplifiers for the Tele Aid system. These are high-power, high- efficiency linear power amplifiers that are manufactured using an advanced gallium arsenide heterojunction bipolar transistor (GaAs HBT) process technology.
