Opnext has launched what it claims is the first 640 nm/60 mW red laser diode, spearheading the firm’s entry into the miniature display market. The new HL6387TG can be built into miniature display systems, including those in personal computers, mobile phones and other mobile devices.
The single-longitudinal-mode laser allows continuous operation at a power output of 60 mW in the 640 nm wavelength band. Reliability is high despite the device’s small package. Output power also remains constant despite a decrease in the ratio of the stem area by 50%. The wavelength band of the red area is 642 nm, which is optimal for red light display. The single longitudinal mode also enables high resolution of the displayed images by focusing the laser light into a small spot.
