Intersil has announced the ISL59450 multiformat video multiplexer with integrated sync separator, a device designed for the variety of video signals and formats used today.
The device’s video format flexibility along with programmable anti-aliasing filters and integrated sync separators, make it a suitable choice for video switching in nearly all display systems.
The ISL59450 has six composite, four S-Video and four component video inputs, enabling simultaneous switching of many video signals in different formats. Additionally, two of the component input channels can be configured for RGB signals with separate horizontal and vertical syncs. This allows for handling of PC video signals often used in multimedia and home theatre applications.
The IC features integrated programmable anti-aliasing filters which provide the ability to program the corner frequencies to specifically address the video standard being used.
Two universal sync separators extract the timing signals from input signals, which will be needed further down the signal path to display and manipulate images. This, along with two active output channels per input group, enables functionality such as picture-in-picture (PIP).
The ISL59450 also features programmable output gain control, allowing the end user to independently adjust the gain of each output to match the termination network.
To support very high resolution signals, the device can be configured to bypass the filters and provide 275 MHz of bandwidth. Enhanced scalability is achieved through a high impedance state that allows non-active parts to be isolated from active signals, enabling multiple devices to be used in parallel to create larger switches.
