New from Vishay is a compact ESD protection array featuring low capacitance and leakage current to protect USB-OTG (on-the-go) ports against transient voltage signals. The new device provides three lines of USB ESD protection at a 5,5 V working range, and one line of VBUS protection at a 12 V working range.
The VBUS053AZ-HAF is packaged in the leadless LLP75-7L, with a 1,6 x 1,6 mm footprint and a low profile of 0,6 mm to minimise the board space required for active ESD protection in high-speed data applications, such as USB 2.0 and HDMI in HDTVs and mobile electronics, including portable gaming systems, MP3 players and cellphones.
The new device features a low load capacitance of 0,7 pF for the three data lines D+, D-, and ID, and a low maximum leakage current of 0,085 μA at the working voltage of 3,3 V, and 1 μA at 5,5 V. It offers a low maximum clamping voltage of less than 4,1 V at 3 A for the data lines, and less than 30 V at 8 A for the VBUS line.
The array provides transient protection as per IEC 61000 4 2 (ESD) at 15 kV (air and contact discharge), and IEC 61000 4 5 (lightning) from 3 A. The lead-free device features a halogen-free moulding compound, and is compliant with RoHS 2002/95/EC and WEEE 2002/96/EC.
