Portable monitoring of gigabit and 10 GbE networks

The Gigabit Observer Suite System (GOSS) from Network Instruments contains all the hardware and software required to troubleshoot and manage advanced wire-speed networks in realtime.
For high-end administrators tasked with travelling to different sites to solve elusive network problems, the GOSS is a portable unit that provides the technology and capability required to solve wire-speed, full-duplex gigabit and 10 GbE problems in realtime.
The system includes Network Instruments’ Gen2 Capture Card for gigabit and 10 GbE captures and a 10/100/1000 adapter card for complete, wire-speed, full-duplex packet capture, network statistics, trending, realtime Expert, Web-based reporting, and an SNMP management system.
The analyser has the ability to perform full-duplex, wire-speed analysis for copper and optical fibre networks. All configurations include an internal nTAP that provides a copy of all traffic to the analyser. In case of gigabit over fibre networks, the nTAP splits the optical signal, providing one signal to the network and the other signal to the analyser. In the case of gigabit over copper, the nTAP electronically duplicates the gigabit signal-sending one signal to the network, and the other signal to the analyser. This ensures that data flow always remains unaltered and uninterrupted.
The GOSS not only stands on its own as a complete network analyser, it also connects as a probe to any Expert Observer or Observer Suite console for advanced troubleshooting across the entire network. With the Network Instruments distributed network analysis (NI-DNA) architecture, all Network Instruments’ products can link to each other for complete monitoring and realtime analysis across multiple locations. For example, the GOSS can be used to retrieve data from any remote probe or to allow a network administrator at another site to access local data.
