Erni Electronics has expanded its 0,8 mm MicroStac SMT connector series to include 10-pin (single row) and 54-pin (dual row) versions. The connectors’ design and miniature construction make them suitable for a broad scope of applications including sensor technology, medical instruments and mobile communications, automotive electronics, automation engineering, measurement technology, test equipment and building automation. For medical applications, new antistatic versions are available upon request.
The stability of the miniature connector is facilitated through a tilt-proof contact principle with dual side positioning of the contact on the PCB. With its low weight (just 0,18 g for the 6-pin variant), 100% SMT co-planarity of less than 0,1 mm and suction areas integrated in the insulating body for pick-and-place assembly, the MicroStac is well suited to high-speed manufacturing requirements.
At an ambient temperature of 20°C and current feed to all contacts, the 50-pin connector in the MicroStac range can transfer 1,6 A per contact, resulting in a total current capacity of 80 A. Depending on the connector version, the board-to-board height ranges from 3,0 mm to between 5 and 6,5 mm.
Despite the miniature design, the MicroStac is designed to be used in multiple mated pairs between two boards. Subsequently, there is little risk of ‘negative tolerance stack up’. The permissible centre offset, when connected, is ±0,7 mm in the longitudinal direction and ±0,5 mm in the transverse direction. The permissible angular offset is ±4 degrees.
