Small 1 W LEDs

13 May 2009 Opto-Electronics

Avago has announced one of the industry’s smallest LED emitters for solid-state lighting applications. With dimensions of 5 mm by 4 mm by 1,85 mm thick, the new compact 1 Watt ASMT-Jx1x is packaged in a small outline package (SOP) and is capable of being driven at 350 mA to provide high flux output performance.

The LED emitter provides a wide viewing angle, has moisture sensitivity level-one (MSL 1) capability, and is very reliable. It is competitively priced and is designed for use in lighting applications where space is constrained, such as portable lighting appliances, street lighting, architectural façade lighting, retail display lighting, backlighting and specialty lighting applications.

Despite its compact size, the ASMT-Jx1x provides a maximum viewing angle of 165° to meet the needs of designers who require good colour and light output uniformity in their lighting applications. By delivering a high flux output of up to 87 lumens at 350 mA, this LED features a maximum allowable junction temperature of 150°C and high ESD resistance of 16 kV.

The LED is available in red, amber, green, blue, cool white, neutral white and warm white colours and is compatible with standard SMT reflow soldering processes.
