Point-of-load converters

10 June 2009 Power Electronics / Power Management

Power-One has expanded its YEV series of 3, 6 and 10 A vertically-mounted, point-of-load (POL) DC-DC converter products to offer an extended operating temperature range option of -40°C to +85°C . This extended range not only allows these devices to be used in commercial applications, but now adds the flexibility for use in typical telecom applications and others that may have environmentally challenging temperature conditions.

The YEV series POLs utilise advanced topologies to deliver up to 94% efficient power conversion in communications and server applications. They also reduce the number of model numbers needed in inventory by combining a wide input range – 4,5 V to 13,8 V – with user-defined 0,6 V to 5,1 V outputs. Additional features include the capability to start up into pre-biased loads, no minimum-load operation, UL94 V-0 flammability rating, an Enable input interface capability, and low-noise fixed frequency topologies.

The converters have a 10,41 x 10,16 mm SIP footprint and a 16,51 mm height. Protections include over-current and output over-voltage with automatic restart.
