Glow-wire compatible connectors

24 June 2009 Interconnection

The VAL-U-LOK connector family from Tyco Electronics now includes housings that meet the requirements of IEC 60335-1 for glow-wire ignition temperature and glow-wire flammability index. IEC 60335-1 addresses safety requirements in household appliances. While the standard applies primarily to appliances sold in Europe, demand for glow-wire-compatible housing is growing worldwide as manufacturers look to meet global market requirements. The new glow-wire housings use standard VAL-U-LOK contacts and are intermateable with other VAL-U-LOK and AMP-DUAC connectors and with Molex Mini-Fit Jr. connectors.

The VAL-U-LOK connector system is a low-cost, wire-to-wire and wire-to-board connector system with 4,2 x 4,2 mm centreline. This connector system can be used in a variety of applications, including the HVAC, vending, gaming, and appliance industries. Sizes range from two to 24 positions for double-row configurations and three to five positions for single-row versions. The header assemblies come with pre-loaded contacts and may be installed on the printed circuit board manually or automatically using robotic equipment. All housings are polarised for easier mating and locking latches help maintain reliable connections.
