KVG has developed new small sized high performance SMD OCXOs with dimensions of 25 mm x 22 mm x 15 mm, employing phase noise-optimised SC cut crystals to offer enhanced electrical and thermal characteristics.
The 6000 series demonstrates phase noise at 10 Hz from the carrier of better than -130 dBc/Hz; at 100 Hz it is
-155 dBc/Hz; and at 1 kHz it is 165 dBc/Hz. The so-called ‘noise floor’ is typically in the range of -170 dBc/Hz. The new OCXOs show tight frequency stability of ±5 ppb in the temperature range of -20°C to +70°C, and ±10 ppb from -40°C to +85°C. The long term stability (ageing) is better than ±1 ppb per day, better than ±0,1 ppm per year and less than ±1 ppm within 15 years.
Due to the low phase noise figures, these OCXO are designed for a supply voltage of +12 V; the output signal is a pure sine wave of +6 dBm with low harmonics. The standard frequency is 10 MHz, with additional frequencies available on request. Typical applications are as a reference clock for mobile test and measurement system, microwave signal sources and medical instruments.
