International Rectifier has introduced the IRAUDAMP7 reference design for Class D audio amplifiers above 25 W per channel. With a power range from 25 W to 500 W, the IRAUDAMP7 offers a high degree of scalability on a single-layer PCB.
The IRAUDAMP7S two-channel, 120 W half-bridge design provides 91% efficiency at 120 W in Class D stage, 8 Ω, and a THD+N of 0,005% at 1 kHz, 60 W, 8 Ω. The IRAUDAMP7D features IR’s IRS2092 protected digital audio driver IC in a DIP16 package together with through-hole components, while the IRAUDAMP7S features the IRS2092S in an SOIC package with surface-mount components. Both reference designs are paired with the IRFI4019H-117P digital audio dual MOSFET to enhance scalability, and are wave solder process compatible.
The IRAUDAMP7 incorporates critical protection features including over-current protection, over-voltage protection, under-voltage protection, DC-protection, and over-temperature protection. Housekeeping functions include a ±5 V supply for analog signal processing for the preamplifier and a +12 V supply (VCC) referenced to -B for the Class D gate driver stage.
