HB LEDs for solid-state lighting

19 August 2009 Opto-Electronics

New from Avago are small, high-brightness 3 W LEDs for use in a range of solid-state lighting applications. With dimensions of 5 x 4 x 1,85 mm, the compact ASMT-Jx3x is packaged in a small outline package capable of being driven to up to 700 mA to provide high flux output performance. Typical applications include portable lighting appliances, street lighting, architectural façade lighting, retail display lighting, backlighting as well as specialty lighting applications.

Despite its compact size, the LED provides a maximum viewing angle of 165° to meet the needs of designers who require good colour and light output uniformity in their lighting applications. By delivering flux output of up to 160 lumens at 700 mA, this LED features a maximum allowable junction temperature of 135°C and electrostatic discharge (ESD) resistance of 16 kV; as a result, special ESD protection equipment is not required to handle the part during installation. The LED is compatible with standard SMT reflow soldering processes and has moisture sensitivity level-one (MSL 1) capability.

The wide range of available colours includes red, red-orange, amber, green, blue, royal blue, cool white, neutral white and warm white.
