Portable LAN tester for AT&T

25 April 2001 Test & Measurement

When AT&T decided to upgrade its testing equipment for monitoring LAN networks earlier this year, finding a portable system was of paramount importance. The choice fell on a Fluke LanMeter 686 from Spescom MeasureGraph.

"Pinpointing problematic LAN segments with bulky equipment is a very tedious process," says AT&T IT Specialist Networking Team Leader Vernon van Rooyen. " The portable LanMeter is used in the Second Level Support division for monitoring LAN infrastructure, segments and problem determination on customer networks and all the engineers and technicians are pleased with the convenience of working with a light instrument."

AT&T specialises in providing network and Internet connectivity to customers. "The LanMeter has already proved its usefulness in the troubleshooting of networks. Because it is compact and user-friendly we are able to determine, isolate and resolve LAN related problems much faster than previously. The recording and capturing of vital information on the LanMeter 686 allows our engineers to compile accurate reports on the 'before and after' events of network troubleshooting for future reference. The most important advantage of the LanMeter is that the time savings and increased productivity we have achieved enable us to resolve customers' LAN problems in a shorter time than was previously possible."
