Avago’s AEDR-8400 series is a tiny optical encoder employing reflective technology for motion control purposes. The encoder combines an emitter and a detector in a single surface mount leadless package. When used with a code-wheel or linear code-strip, the encoder translates rotary or linear motion into digital output.
The AEDR-8400 series outputs TTL compatible quadrature signals and as such, can be interfaced directly with most signal processing circuitries. It provides motion sensing at a competitive cost, making it suitable for high volume applications. Its small size and surface mount package make it suitable for printers, copiers, card readers and many consumer products, particularly where space and weight are design constraints.
The encoders operate from a single 2,8 V supply and feature a resolution of 10 lines per millimetre, operating over the -20°C to 85°C temperature range. They are environmentally friendly in line with European ROHS requirements.
