Westcode Semiconductors has launched its next generation Press-Pack IGBT using a fully hermetic compression contact ceramic capsule in order to assure high reliability in the Megawatt range in high-power applications where efficiency and reliability are vital. Using the latest SPT+ technology, the new range features an improved safe operating area (SOA) and reduction in on-state losses of approximately 25% from the previous generation.
The SPT+ IGBT Press-Packs range from 240 A to 2400 A collector current and have a collector-emitter voltage of 4500 V. The T2400GB45E is an example of a 2,4 kA, 4,5 kV IGBT that is housed in a ceramic capsule of 168 mm outside diameter. Westcode also offers IGBTs with a fully rated internal diode included in the capsule.
Without the reliability weaknesses inherent in module designs, such as wire bonding or die soldering processes, the Press-Pack IGBT is very well suited for high-power applications. Westcode also provides a range of complementary high-power Sonic diodes whose fast and soft switching capability ideally matches the IGBT so that together they provide an attractive solution to high-power problems.
