Phoenix Contact offers Ethernet-based solutions for automating and capturing energy data with its ILC (inline controller) range of modular embedded controllers. Comprehensive energy efficiency concepts for industrial production systems require consistent data for analysis purposes.
These controllers read data from connected counters via digital inputs or underlying fieldbus systems. Once read, the values are normalised and written directly into a database management system (DBMS). The PC Worx automation software supports direct communications with a DBMS (such as Microsoft SQL server) by providing function modules for the inline controller. The modular design of the components allows direct transmission of SQL (structured query language) commands such as ‘Insert,’ ‘Update’ and ‘Select’ so that data can be written and read to and from DBMS tables during operation. Direct communication via TCP/IP avoids the need for additional drivers.
