The new MIC2358YLQ from Micrel is a power-over-Ethernet (PoE) controller for power sourcing equipment (PSE) that provides eight ports of IEEE 802.3af-compliant power delivery in a compact 64-pin LQFP package. The solution is targeted at a range of PoE applications including low-density LAN switches, IP surveillance, VoIP, and mid-span power injectors in the telecommunications and security arenas. The device features enhanced manageability facilities to support a range of management environments. A centralised management console may configure and monitor up to 32 devices, representing 256 ports, through a standard SMB bus remote management connection. In addition, the MIC2358YLQ provides an autonomous mode which is capable of managing the power budget without an external host processor. A full complement of over/under-voltage/current monitoring is provided, in accordance with the 802.3af standard.
