Emergency stop switch

9 June 2010 Switches, Relays & Keypads

The new emergency stop switch RAFIX 22 FS ‘Plus 1’ designed by RAFI now has an additional signal contact supplementing the two individual redundant normally-closed contacts for the emergency stop function. The two NC contacts are redundant because redundancy is more and more often a requirement for safety applications in mechanical engineering and control system development and helps to minimise the probability of failure of a component.

The third, normally-open contact may be used, for example, for sending an information signal to a monitoring unit or master safety controller. The safety controller may then initiate a controlled shutdown, depending on the location and type of the hazard indicated. The switch is available for two levels of protection: protection to IP69K is offered for applications involving extremely intensive cleaning by means of high-pressure cleaners. This variant of the emergency stop switch is reset by pulling. For normal harsh environments involving dust and splashing water, protection to IP65 is offered; this variant can be reset by turning.

The e-stop is available either with quick-connect terminals (mounting depth of 27 mm) or as a PCB mounting version (mounting depth of 9,2 mm). The gold contacts are designed for industrial voltage ranges and are suitable for up to 42 V/100 mA.
