ERNI Electronics has expanded its 1,0 mm MicroSpeed connector family to include 7-row vertical versions in addition to the 2-row variants. The MicroSpeed connectors support data rates of up to 10 Gbps with 100 Ω impedance for differential signal transmission and 50 Ω impedance for single-ended signal transmission. The new high-density MicroSpeed components address high-speed and complex board-to-board connections in telecommunications and data transmission devices.
The modular and shielded connectors are available in seven rows with 91 or 133 pins and with 5 mm stacking height for a mated connector pair. The connectors operate across a wide temperature range (-55°C to +125°C). The signal contacts are built with SMT termination, while two termination options for the enveloping shielding are available depending on the application; SMT or through-hole reflow (THR) for extra heavy cards or extra mechanical strain relief. SMT signal coplanarity is 100% guaranteed at less than 0,10 mm on all contacts. The signal connector‘s longitudinal pitch of 1,0 mm and transverse pitch of 1,5 mm allow the differential or single-ended signals to be arranged horizontally or vertically to meet specific impedance requirements.
For differential data transmission, several different signal-pair arrangements are possible. Parallel signal connections are recommended for improved crosstalk properties. SPICE models and evaluation boards are available to support high-speed designs.
The new 7-row vertical female and male connectors expand the MicroSpeed family, which includes 2-row connectors offered in a variety of board-to-board stack heights ranging from 5 mm to 20 mm in 1 mm increments. For rugged applications, MicroSpeed blind mate connectors are available, manufactured using high-impact resistant thermoplastic UL94 V-0 rated LCP, and designed with thicker housing side walls. The housing provides two polarised guide elements to assist with alignment and secure mating. ERNI also offers power modules with stacking heights ranging from 5 mm to 20 mm and right angled MicroSpeed signal connectors (2-row version).
MicroSpeed connectors are supplied in tape and reel packaging. They are equipped with black insulator housings to ensure fast and reliable visual recognition, and a pre-mounted pick-and-place cover for easy assembly onto the PCB.
