Device servers offer dual-LAN redundancy

23 June 2010 Telecoms, Datacoms, Wireless, IoT

Advantech’s EKI-1521 and EKI-1522 serial device servers feature two independent Ethernet ports and MAC addresses to provide a redundant networking mechanism to guarantee Ethernet networking reliability. They create a redundant environment in which users can establish two physical networks, one for primary connection and another as a backup host that can connect to servers directly when the primary connection fails. The modules connect RS232/422/485 serial devices such as PLCs, meters, sensors and bar code readers to an IP-based Ethernet LAN, and allow nearly any device with serial ports to connect and share an Ethernet network.

With COM port redirection mode, standard serial operation calls are transparently redirected to the EKI-1521 and EKI-1522, guaranteeing compatibility with legacy serial devices and enabling backward compatibility with existing software. With TCP server, TPC client and UDP modes, the device servers ensure the compatibility of network software that uses a standard network API. Each COM port provides 921 Kbaud technology with throughput up to 1,2 Mbps. Both servers include built-in dual-power inputs from 12-48 V d.c. with a power fail relay output to detect power operation status.
