Spectrum analyser for next-generation radio devices

23 May 2001 Test & Measurement

Third-generation mobile radio communications systems conforming to IMT-2000 (2 GHz band) will soon enter service and the BlueTooth system (2,4 GHz) is also now being adopted for short-range radio communications.

R&D in many countries is focused on MMAC, IEEE-802.11a and Hyper LAN2 (5 GHz band) that allow high-speed radio access to the Internet.

Anritsu claims that its new MS2683A that covers the 9 kHz to 7,8 GHz band offers excellent functions and performance at low cost in a compact portable cabinet, making it ideal for cutting costs in manufacturing, installation and maintenance of mobile communicatiosn systems worldwide.

The MS2683A is a spectrum analyser for evaluating devices for next-generation mobile radio communications systems. It has superior functions and performance such as a wide dynamic range (156 dB typ), excellent RBW (20 MHz) and high-speed sweeping (20 times/s refresh rate). At ACP measurement with W-CDMA signal input, it achieves results of -68 dBc (5 MHz offset) and -75 dBc (10 MHz offset), making it ideal for evaluating devices such as basestation power amplifiers, etc. In addition, the input attenuator can be set in 2 dB steps, making it possible to suppress internal mixer distortion and noise levels.

The MS2683A has convenient one-touch functions for measuring each evaluation item, such as adjacent channel power and occupied bandwidth, etc by selecting soft keys displayed on the measurement screen. These useful measure functions permit automatic pass/fail evaluation of measured items after measurement start.
