450 W AC/DC power supplies

7 July 2010 Power Electronics / Power Management

With its new HRP/HRPG-450 series of 450 W power supplies, Mean Well has reduced the size by 38,2%, increased the working efficiency up to 7% and also extended the warranty from three years to five years compared to the company’s first generation of enclosed type PFC product – the SP-480 series. With a built-in active PFC function to fulfil the requirement of EN61000-3-2 for harmonic current, the HRP-450 (basic models) and HRPG-450 (fully equipped models) are designed for fitting 1U low-profile (41 mm) rack chassis.

With up to 89,5% efficiency, the units can be cooled by the integrated DC fan from -30°C to +50°C ambient temperature under full load condition, and up to +70°C by derating the output load. In addition, they include 300 V a.c. input surge immunity for 5 seconds, which can reduce damages caused by unstable AC mains. To compensate for wiring voltage drops, a remote sense function compensates for up to 0,5 V of voltage drop. Protection functions include short circuit, overload (constant current mode), over-voltage and over-temperature.

The new models feature remote ON/OFF control and 5 V/0,3 A standby output to achieve no-load power consumption less than 0,5 W. They also comply with global certificates per UL/CUL/TUV/CB/CE. Suitable applications are general electronics, factory automation, LED moving signs, and test and measurement equipment.
