New from Supertex is the SR10, a capacitor-coupled, switched shunt regulator for direct AC line operation. Its standby power consumption is very low, making it suitable for ‘always on’ standby applications like utility meters, audio/video and white goods.
The IC operates at high efficiency while requiring no magnetic components or high-voltage electrolytic capacitors. Its output can be internally programmed at 6, 12 or 24 V, or can be externally adjusted with a feedback divider from 6 to 28 V. Output current can be scaled via a safety-rated, series coupling capacitor on the AC line. Typical standby power consumption is less than 20 mW. The SR10 also uses the safety-rated, high-voltage capacitor to meet voltage safety standards for the load. The solution also meets class B limits for conducted emission. The IC is available in an RoHS-compliant, 8-lead SOIC package (SR10LG-G).
