The new capacitor holder from Molex provides a robust and reliable method of attaching electrolytic capacitors horizontally to a PCB. The holder is suitable for a range of applications where an electrolytic capacitor is required.
In many applications, the capacitor is the tallest component on a PCB. In this new holder design, the capacitor is mounted horizontally on the PCB to achieve vertical height savings of up to 50%. The design also maximises board real estate usage by allowing the space underneath the holder to be populated by surface mount components, which can reduce the size of the overall design. The holder allows the user to apply the capacitor in press-fit or through-hole applications.
The housing and sleeve design firmly and securely encompasses the capacitor, and extends the life of the capacitor by preventing micro-cracks and field failures caused by vibration. The holder successfully passes drop testing and vibration tests to meet stringent safety regulations for critical applications such as car airbags.
