Handheld network test platform

EXFO announced the launch of the FTB-1 handheld testing platform and a range of associated test modules.

Equipped with a powerful Intel Atom processor and the Windows Embedded Standard operating system, the FTB-1 delivers field technicians the speed, performance and flexibility needed to adapt to multiservice networking environments.

The handheld platform is optimised for fast, powerful FTTH and Ethernet testing. It is purpose-built for rugged field testing environments, offering a widescreen TFT display and hybrid touch screen/keypad navigation. Platform connectivity is provided via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Gigabit Ethernet and multiple USB ports, making it accessible in any testing environment.

Featuring EXFO’s newly introduced EXpert Test Tools portfolio, the FTB-1 can be further enhanced and tailored to support additional testing capabilities without the need for additional modules. EXpert VoIP allows field technicians to generate and respond to simulated or live VoIP calls to validate performance during turn-up and troubleshooting. EXpert IP integrates six commonly used datacom test tools into one software application to ensure technicians are prepared for a variety of testing environments.

The company simultaneously launched the NetBlazer series of handheld devices capable of 10 Mbps to 10 Gbps Ethernet testing. Leveraging the FTB-1 platform, the NetBlazer FTB-860, FTB-860G and FTB-860GL empower field technicians to transition between 10/100/1000/10000 interfaces to adapt to a variety of networking environments.

Offering simplicity in configuration setting and GUI navigation, the NetBlazer series offers dedicated quick action buttons and clear notifications for accurate interpretation of test results. Workflow processes are streamlined through grouping of related test routines for precise, informed results. Situational configuration guides are available to steer technicians through complete testing protocols, with suggestion prompts and help guides at every stage of the process. Intelligent auto discovery, smart loopback, multistream traffic generation, bidirectional RFC 2544 measurements and EtherSAM (EXFO’s implementation of the ITU-T Y.156sam testing methodology) optimise field technician autonomy and deliver comprehensive test results for the installation, activation and maintenance of metro Ethernet networks.

The FTB-730 PON FTTx/MDU OTDR is a complementary OTDR testing solution optimised for PON FTTx/MDU networking environments. It empowers fibre installers to characterise single- or double-stage splitters and perform comprehensive OTDR trace analysis.

With a dynamic range of 39 dB and rapid acquisition time, the FTB-730 can generate a sharp trace within 15 seconds, while testing through a 1 x 128 high-port-count splitter for end-to-end characterisation of an optical link. The system features a single-mode port for in-service troubleshooting, offers integrated PDF report generation, provides multiple wireless connectivity options and supports 15 different languages.
