VDSL line driver

13 April 2011 Analogue, Mixed Signal, LSI

Texas Instruments introduced a Class H VDSL line driver offering a digitally adjustable quiescent current to achieve optimum power savings while still achieving high linearity and low distortion. Compared to Class AB alternatives, TI claims that the gated, dual-port THS6226 consumes 47% less power, a critical requirement for the high-density VDSL applications used in high-speed broadband networks. The IC covers all VDSL profiles, with power consumption as low as 350 mW for the 17a profile. It offers low multitone power ratio (MTPR) distortion of 70 dB with 19,8 dBm for VDSL2 profile 8b to help maintain signal fidelity. The IC also integrates an input biasing circuit and all gain and feedback resistors.
