Vishay announced a new device in the microBUCK family of synchronous buck regulators. The 6 A SiC414 is a DC-DC converter solution featuring a controller IC with gate drivers, two PWM-optimised n-channel MOSFETs (high and low side) and a bootstrap switch in a standalone buck regulator configuration in a MLPQ 4 by 4 mm, 28-pin package.
The device offers a wide input voltage range of 3 V to 28 V, with minimum output voltages down 0,75 V. The regulator minimises EMI by eliminating PCB traces, while its high- and low-side MOSFETs provide low on-resistance for reduced power losses and better performance. The SiC414 offers the small form factor needed for compact, battery-operated portable computing. The constant-on-time controller provides enhanced transient response to help reduce output filter cost for a given load regulation target. The device’s ultrasonic power save mode delivers high light-load efficiency, making it suitable for CPU and GPU core voltage regulation in notebook, desktop and server computers; set-top boxes and HDTVs; and digital consumer equipment.
The microBUCK regulator provides efficiency of 95%, and is capable of operating with all ceramic solutions and switching frequencies up to 1 MHz. In addition, the SiC414’s internal fixed LDO may be used to supply 5 V for the gate drive circuits, or it may be bypassed with an external 5 V supply for optimum efficiency and used to drive external n-channel MOSFETs or other loads. For reliable operation and easy system integration, the device features cycle-by-cycle current limiting, an enable pin, internal soft start, under-voltage lockout, over-voltage protection, a power good output and thermal shutdown at +150°C.
