USB-OTG bus port protection array

27 April 2011 Circuit & System Protection

Vishay has developed a new ESD protection array featuring low capacitance and leakage currents to protect USB-OTG ports against transient voltage signals.

The new VBUS053CZ-HAF provides three lines of USB ESD protection at a 5,5 V working range and one line of VBUS protection at a 28 V working range. The device is packaged in the leadless LLP75-7L package, with an ultra-low profile of 0,6 mm to minimise the board space required for active ESD protection in high-speed data applications, such as USB 2.0 and HDMI in HDTVs and mobile electronics including portable gaming systems, MP3 players and cellphones.

The new device features a low load capacitance of 0,7 pF for the three data lines D+, D- and ID and a low maximum leakage current of 0,085 A at the working voltage of 3,3 V and of 1 A at 5,5 V. The array provides a low typical clamping voltage of 15 V at 3 A for the data lines. For the VBUS line, the VBUS053CZ-HAF features a typical clamping voltage of 53 V at 3 A. The component provides transient protection as per IEC 61000-4-2 at 15 kV contact and 15 kV air discharge, as well as surge current protection in accordance with IEC 6100-4-5 from 3 A.
