Fire resistant cable

Cabcon Technologies has produced a locally-manufactured cable that fully complies with the requirements of SANS 10139. A sample of the cable was forwarded to the South African Bureau of Standards’ fire testing laboratories for compliance testing. The test was successfully concluded after the cable continued burning in excess of 120 minutes, which complied with the maximum survival time stated in the relevant standard’s test method. The cable will be marketed using the brand name CAB-TECH FIRE.

The cable assures reliable circuit integrity to keep emergency evacuation systems operational even while the cable is burning. It is sheathed using a non-toxic, halogen-free compound which produces low emissions of smoke and reduces propagation of fire along the cable; a steel wire armoured version is also available.
