DC-DC converters for vehicle use

25 May 2011 Power Electronics / Power Management

Mean Well has introduced its second generation of 100 W enclosed type, single-output DC-DC converters to fulfil the various requirement of vehicle applications. Complete with EN50155 railway certification and featuring 2:1 (±40%) wide input range and 4000 V d.c. input/output isolation, the RSD-100 series is characterised by 5 G vibration withstand capability, protection against short circuit, overload, output overvoltage and input reverse polarity, as well as constant current limiting, all in a 36 mm profile.

The converters exhibit up to 91% efficiency and are semi-encapsulated for PCB protection to protect against moisture, dust, heat dissipation and vibration. They can operate without any forced air at temperatures between -40°C to +70°C. The RSD-100 series conforms to ITE standards (IEC60950-1 and EN55022) as well as railway certificates (EN50155, IEC60571, IEC61373, EN50121-3-2) so that they are suitable to be used in all kinds of vehicles equipped with a DC power source. Applications include railway, metro rapid transit systems, subways, busses, leisure trailers and ocean vessels. In addition, along with external batteries as the energy source, they are also suitable for harsh industrial installations such as security systems, DC UPS and telecom equipment.
