New from Vishay is a Power Metal Strip meter shunt resistor with sense leads designed to be soldered directly to the PCB, eliminating the need for costly flexible leads.
The WSMS2908 combines a 3 W power capability in the 2908 size package with low resistance values down to 100 μΩ.
The part features a proprietary processing technique that produces very low resistance values of 100, 250, 300, 430 and 500 μΩ. These values allow for increased accuracy in current meter shunt applications for industrial and consumer single- or multiphase energy meters. With a tolerance of 5%, the new resistor provides power companies with more accurate data to determine customer usage and to adjust billing terms.
The WSMS2908 features a five-terminal connection design and an all-welded construction that contributes to its electrical performance. It offers very low inductance values of < 5 nH and a low thermal EMF of < 3 μV/°C.
