Two new families of zero insertion force (ZIF), vertical-mount, secure locking FFC/FPC connectors have been developed by AVX, targeting automotive, industrial and commercial markets.
Specifically designed to meet high-volume, harsh environment needs, the 6801 series connector features a one-stage action that facilitates automated assembly. Featuring a high retention force of 70 N, the connector offers optional shortened contacts that allow for automated electrical testing. Because the new styles accommodate the same FFC/FPC cable shape as previous generation products, upgrades are simple and designs can be flexible using right-angled and vertical versions.
The 0,5 mm pitch connectors can handle a FPC/FFC thickness of 0,30 mm
±0,05 mm and are rated at 0,5 A/pin, 50 Vrms. The operating temperature range suits automotive standards from -40°C to +105°C. To further aid automation, the connectors have a sufficiently large flat surface to accommodate pick-and-place nozzle heads and clear, contrasting colouring for camera recognition (black on slider/white on housing).
Targeting more commercially-sensitive applications, the 6251 series connectors are configured for vertical mount, and also accommodate the same FFC/FPC cable shape as previous devices. Featuring a flip lid that is moulded to simplify opening and closing by hand and to provide tactile feedback on closing, the connectors are available in 10/30/40/45/50/60/64-way versions and offered with gold plating as standard for maximum protection against tin whiskering.
