New from International Rectifier is the IR115x family of μPFC power factor correction (PFC) ICs for a wide variety of AC-DC applications including lighting, LCD/PDP TV and game console switch mode power supplies, fans, air conditioners and uninterruptible power supplies ranging from 300 W to 8 kW.
The devices, utilising IR’s ‘One Cycle Control’ technology, offer high power factor, low total harmonic distortion and stable DC bus regulation. They are designed to operate in continuous conduction mode boost PFC converters with average current mode control over 85–264 V a.c. input line voltage range. The ICs offer a dedicated pin for over-voltage protection, cycle by cycle peak current limitation, open loop protection, VCC UVLO and programmable soft-start. The user initiated micropower startup/sleep-mode enables compliance with standby power requirements mandated by regulations such as Energy Star, Green Power and Blue Angel. The IR1152S and IR1153S also feature brown-out protection.
The IR1155S offers programmable switching frequency between 48 kHz and 200 kHz based on the specific application requirement. The IR1152S and IR1153S offer fixed switching frequencies of 66 kHz and 22,2 kHz respectively. These devices are compatible with IR’s Ultrafast and Warp IGBTs for systems with power ratings higher than 750 W and switching frequency up to 100 kHz.
