To a greater or lesser extent, all contact between objects, every separation of one item from another, each sliding of one thing on another, causes a disturbance of electrical charge. When charge disturbances take place faster than charge redistribution, static charge accumulates. ESD occurs where charges of different electrostatic potentials meet. The flow of electrons is usually sudden and releases energy that can damage electrostatic sensitive devices (ESDS).
To protect ESDS from the unwanted effects of ESD, they must be handled exclusively in an ESD protected area (EPA) where electrostatic potential differences are minimised, and must be transported from one EPA to another only in shielding packages. Actum Electronics supplies a range of products to meet these needs, including EPA warning signs and ESD shielded cartons.
The floor stickers are self-adhesive, highly visible and very robust, measuring 120 x 60 mm in size. The purpose of such stickers and floor marking tape is to define the boundaries of the EPA.
When it comes to ESDS packaging, CORTRONIC is ideally suited thanks to its static dissipative skin and buried conductive core. It features effective, ESD-safe packaging for electronics with the ESD shielding layer integrated into the corrugated structure. Surface resistance of the outer layers is 107–108 Ω (ANSI/ESD-S11.11) and ESD shielding is 10 nJ (ESD-S11.31), with static decay of less than 1 second.
The boxes are environment friendly (re-usable, recyclable, water soluble and bio-degradable) and meet or exceed IEC 61340-5-1 specifications. They are available in a large number of stock versions or to customer specification, also with custom print.
