Low dropout regulators

28 September 2011 Power Electronics / Power Management

Microchip’s new MCP1754/MCP1754S low dropout regulators (LDOs) feature a high typical PSRR of 70 dB at 1 kHz and a maximum output current of 150 mA at a junction temperature of +125°C. They offer a high input voltage of 16 V; an output voltage range of 1,8 V to 5,5 V, with standard output voltages of 2 V, 2,5 V, 2,8 V, 3 V, 3,3 V, 4 V and 5 V; and output voltage tolerances of ±2% over the entire temperature range.

The MCP1754 provides enhanced features such as a shutdown input signal and a power-good output signal, while the MCP1754S is the baseline version of the device. The LDOs are targeted at designs such as GFCI and AFCI circuit breakers, or for power adapters in the automotive market, cellphones in the consumer electronics market, and medical products. The devices’ high PSRR allows them to meet the need for LDOs capable of rejecting power supply noise in sensitive electronic circuits.
