Bluetooth 4.0 development kit

23 November 2011 Design Automation

Bluegiga Technologies announced the availability of its new Bluetooth 4.0 development kit, designed for development and evaluation of Bluetooth 4.0 single mode applications and to simplify the development of Bluetooth low energy applications.

The development kit includes the BLE112 evaluation board, a Bluetooth 4.0 single mode USB dongle, two Bluetooth 4.0 single mode modules, a firmware programming cable, other cables and documentation, as well as access to Bluegiga’s Bluetooth 4.0 software development kit.

The BLE112 Bluetooth 4.0 single mode module is targeted for low-power sensors and accessories. It offers all Bluetooth 4.0 single mode features: radio, stack, profiles and application space for end user applications. It can therefore be used without an additional microcontroller. The module also provides flexible hardware interfaces to connect sensors, button interfaces or even displays. It can be powered directly with a standard 3 V coin cell battery or a pair of AAA batteries. In lowest-power sleep mode it consumes only 400 nA and will wake up in a few hundred microseconds.

Bluegiga’s Bluetooth 4.0 software development kit allows in-module software development with Bluegiga’s BGScript scripting language, which enables developers to embed applications directly on the BLE112 module in a matter of hours. Bluegiga’s Profile ToolkitT, on the other hand, offers a simple XML based description language for simple Bluetooth profile development.
