PIN diode drivers

The new MPD3T28125-701 series of surface mount PIN diode drivers from Aeroflex Metelics is designed to provide high-voltage and high-current operation for high-power PIN diode switches. In particular, they are intended to operate with Aeroflex/Metelics MSW3100, transmit-receive (asymmetrical) and symmetrical surface mount SP3T switches.

The drivers can supply voltages from +28 V to +125 V for reverse biasing to successfully operate PIN diode switches from 20 to 6000 MHz for 100 W c.w. or peak power levels. In addition, they can supply current of 200 mA for the PIN diode to provide low insertion loss and high isolation. Single or dual TTL control is available in the design.

The driver provides three pairs of complementary outputs that can drive six bias ports in the SPXT PIN diode switch. Switching speed is on the order of 1 μs and can be improved with an external RC, current spiking network. The RoHS compliant driver is provided in a 33 mm² x 8,4 mm surface mount package, and is available in tube and tape-reel packaging for high-volume pick and place automated assembly.
