LCD modules for all display applications

4 July 2001 Opto-Electronics

Data International offers a comprehensive selection of LCDs that are suitable for a variety of flat panel display applications. Featuring the latest technologies the low power requirement of these LCDs means they are particularly well-suited for battery-powered equipment.

TN (or twisted nemetic) LCDs are the lowest-cost, simplest and most common type of LCD. Ideal for static or very low multiplexed displays, they produce a good, high resolution image. STN (or super twisted nemetic) LCDs have been developed from the TN to give greater contrast and a wider viewing area. This is a more complex structure than TN and therefore slightly more expensive.

Data International's chip-on-glass technology (COG) not only enables designers to build a complete LCD module only slightly larger than the viewing area of the LCD glass itself. The technology is also very competitively priced and very efficient, allowing designers to cut costs by shortening assembly times and reducing the number of components required.

Chip-on-board/chip-on foil (COB)/(COF) technology has been developed to allow designers to substantially reduce the overall depth of an LCD module. The technology permits the integration of driver chips in die format directly on to the PCB or foil (or TAB). It is a cost-effective way to manufacture high-volume LCD modules which are space-critical.

Benefits of the LCD range are: low cost and low profile; compact and lightweight; rugged for durability and long life; and can be custom made to customers' specifications.
