Mean Well has introduced the LDV-185 series of 185 W AC/DC power supplies for LEDs. Featuring active power factor correction, they can offer 6 channel/700 mA or 12 channel/350 mA constant-current outputs. As opposed to the manufacturer’s other LED power supplies, these units utilise built-in DC/DC constant-current LED driver ICs to ensure the balance of output current from each channel, which in turn prolongs LED lifetimes and reduces EMI interference by the lighting system.
Two models are available in the LDV-185 series: the standard type has basic features and the D-type is equipped with an additional timer dimming function. After powering on the system, the latter will start up the internal timer controlled by a microcontroller with a preset counting program that allows up to three different time periods (four different brightness levels) to be set, in order to adjust the output current in each period. To allow them to cope with harsh outdoor environments, the power supplies are potted with glue to guarantee IP67 protection and are encased in an aluminium enclosure with stainless screws.
The units feature a 180–295 V a.c. input and comply with harmonic current limitation per EN61000-3-2 Class C (> 75% load). They also fulfil PF > 0,9 if loading over 75% and possess 4 kV surge immunity (EN61000-4-5). They boast up to 88% efficiency, allowing them to be cooled by free air convection from
-30°C to +70°C ambient temperature. Standard functions include protections for short circuit, overload, over-voltage and over-temperature.
